The OISS’ GREAT Project goes on the road to celebrate International Education Week with partners at the University of St. Thomas (UST).
Rice international graduate and scholar volunteers, along with OISS staff conducted the “Walk Through Latin America” workshop for students in UST’s Pragmatics program in September 2023, and will return in November 2023, as part of our International Education Week (IEW) celebrations, to repeat for more Pragmatics students.
The young adult participants will learn to locate 25 countries in Latin America, and then learn more deeply about four countries representing four regions in Latin America: Mexico (North America), Costa Rica (Central America), Colombia (Los Andes), and Brazil (Southern Cone). The Rice international volunteers and mentors are teaching local young adults with learning and cognitive differences about Portuguese and Spanish, culture, food, biological sciences, geography, etc. Most of all, this upbeat and inspirational workshop creates new connections, friendships and a lot of smiles!
